Charlie’s Bunion Hike

Legendary hiker Nan Woodbury will lead us on a hike of Charlie’s Bunion! The hike is 8.5 miles round trip. Rated moderate for the 1640 foot elevation gain and strenuous for the miles.

The trailhead is at Newfound Gap. The hike will gather at 9:45-10 at the trailhead and depart by 10:15.

The drive is at least 1:45 hours one way. Meet at 7:50 am Northshore Kroger parking lot for carpooling. Please show up early so we can be on the road at 8am. The drive is at least 1:45 hours one way. Remember to help share gas expenses if you are carpooling.

Bring food, water, rain gear, extra layers. Expect temperatures to be AT LEAST 10 degrees cooler than Knoxville. (or even cooler if there is wind chill happening)

Charles bunion is a large outcropping of rock that has great views on the TN side.

Our hike starts at Newfound gap and we follow the AT northbound (stopping short of Mt Katadin, Maine by 2195.8 miles).

This hike has been chosen for it’s tremendous views. If the summit is in the clouds an alternate hike will be chosen that morning. If it’s cloudy, please check the Facebook and Meetup posts for updates.
